Just before giving these directions to church elders, Peter tells people going through fiery trials for their faith to entrust themselves to a faithful Creator and keep on doing good. It makes sense that Peter's next thoughts are directed toward the elders, telling them how to be good leaders for people going through hard things. First, they should lead out of their free choice and not reluctantly. Second, they should eagerly serve the Lord and His people, not primarily thinking of their own benefit. Third, their leadership should be characterized by setting a godly example, not by heavy-handed authority.

Please pray for your church elders, including Pastor Aaron and Pastor Karl. We are conscious of how easily we can fall short. We are totally dependent on the Lord to be the kind of leaders Peter tells us to be, and you need us to be. Please pray that we would lead in humility, eagerly setting a godly example.
